Some 1,200 years ago, monks arrived at the present site of Santillana, occupied some land and founded a small hermitage and monastery which, with the support of the nobility, became the largest abbey in Cantabria during the Middle Ages. La Posada "Casa del Organista" is an 18th century mountain mansion that has been carefully restored by artisan stonemasons and carpenters who have reconstructed what was, for sixty years, the house of the organist of the Collegiate Church, for its current use as a charming hotel.
